Cabinet installation...

Saturday, September 27

Today the cabinets began to be installed.
Jason and Kevin began the task of leveling and scribing the cabinets to the walls of the new kitchen.  It is painstaking work and Alex was there to help and observe the process.

The installation moved along well- the sink wall and the two upper cabinets were all put into place today.

Here is the cabinet with the built-in cork board.

By the end of the day on Saturday, almost all of the cabinets have been brought to the kitchen.

Here is a counter sample that we have been investigating for a long time.....it looks pretty good!

Cabinet delivery!

Friday, September 26

The cabinets began to be delivered to the house today!
The Platt truck rolled in next to the house as close as it could get...

And it was CLOSE!

Upper cabinets were fairly easy to deliver.

The lower base cabinets were much more challenging....

This is the base cabinet for the stovetop.

And below is the sink -
We could not wait to see the "Kitchen Queen" sink
be placed in it's proper location!

Cabinets in the shop....

Thursday, September 25

Progress on the cabinets!

Today we saw the cabinets in the final completion stage in the workshop at Platt Builders.  Halsey and Bill (shop manager) should be very proud of these cabinets....

They are full of unique features....

And are gorgeous!

Such warm wood with amazing woodgrain.

This cabinet is for the microwave and a steam oven.

Above is a built-in cork board,
below is the peninsula cabinet base...

Here is one side of the pantry next to the new refrigerator...
Exciting!

Interior Update

Monday, September 22

Take a good look at a the future kitchen space in the next few photos.  It will all be very different soon.....

Kitchen area with the sink "in place" ready for cabinets....

The pantry and refrigerator wall.

The hallway to the Den with the new closet painted and filled (much needed temporary storage!)

The 1/2 bathroom- aka FENWAY is almost painted and
just needs a sink and light fixtures to be functional.

Screen porch update and front landscaping

Saturday, September 20

While the weather is nice we are enjoying finishing the porch. The furniture has been chosen and it will be ready for use when the porch is complete.

Here is what is new:
The walls have been primed white in preparation for moulding to be nailed onto the wall.

This gorgeous ceiling has been trimmed with a finished moulding edge.

Here is a fantastic view from the driveway looking up at the porch after the posts have been trimmed (but not painted the finish color).

A photo from the yard- now clean of all construction debris.  Note the new walkway to the mudroom.

When the granite blocks were placed there was a "smaller" block that looked like the perfect footrest for the bench in the stone wall.

Underneath the windows on the front of the addition we planted three leucothe plants.  These are fairly mature plants, very healthy and are perfect for the space. They are evergreen and will have tiny white flowers in the spring time.
It is very exciting to see the front of the house come alive with plantings.

A New Walkway

Saturday, September 13

Today a granite walkway was put into place outside the new mudroom:

We had granite blocks that had been pulled out of a walkway in front of 214 Main Street in Groton,
so they are now being put to use at 2 Old Ayer Road.

Here is the walkway to the mudroom BEFORE the granite is installed...

The process went relatively quickly utilizing the tractor,
while Angel, Will and Alexander dug and placed the stones.
The granite blocks were placed and leveled with enough pitch to drain water away from the doorway.

The granite blocks vary from
32-40 inches in depth,
and are all 4 feet wide.

Sean arrived to help place the second half of the walkway and also sweep the stone dust in between the cracks.

Angel then went to the local nursery and brought back loam to fill on either side of the walkway...
And we had plants from a client who is renovating their home and landscaping so we have an

Instant Inviting Walkway:

An incredibly rewarding AFTER picture!!

Carpet installation

Thursday, September 4

The carpet is installed in the upstairs "rec room" which will become the master bedroom eventually...

BEFORE:

This view encompasses the back wall of the rec room.

And here is the entrance to the second floor hallway.

AFTER:

The carpeting has been installed!
It looks a little darker in due to the lighting in this picture.

It looks fantastic upon entering the room...
